Volunteer Opportunities Available at Street Teens
Administrative : Assist with administrative duties that include filing, phone calls, copying, data entry, preparing mailings and/or coordinating volunteers. Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm .
Community ServiceProjects: If your group is looking for an organization to work with for a community service project we would be more than happy to work with you. Please contact Lisa Preston at 215-4171 for a meeting.
Employment, Job Application & GED Classes : Engage in computer assistance, tutoring, job searches, mock interviews, employment application assistance. Friday 3pm to 4pm .
Fundraising Events : Opportunities are available in all areas of fundraising, from development through event production. Times vary.
Meals : If you are interested in providing our homeless teens with a hot meal once a week, once a month or just on a special occasion. Please contact our food coordinator, Patricia Johnston at 855-4566 for more details.
Outreach to homeless youth : The Street Outreach and Referral Programs uses outreach strategies and methods to identify, engage, refer and transport homeless and at-risk youth in effort to prevent or transition them from living on the street into a safe environment and /or independent living.
Special Events : Help plan and set up special events for the clients. (i.e. picnics, fieldtrips, sporting events, special lunches, holiday and birthday parties.) Sponsor a field trip for youth to a museum, the beach, a ballgame or Bake delicious goodies as a special treat or sponsor a party. Times vary.
Special project: Repaint, landscape, improve upon agency facilities.
Or come up with your own creative ideas for a special project.
Times vary.
Workshops : Share a special talent or skill with our clients. Assist or direct workshops ranging from employment and education to the arts.
How Do I Become a Volunteer?
- Complete web form by clicking here
- Training: Complete Training & Information session with Program Coordinator
- Commitment: To ensure consistency of our program, we ask for a minimum six-month commitment of volunteering at least four hours each week.
- Background Check: We ask that all volunteers go to 400 East Stewart to complete a background check and return it to our Program Coordinator. The cost is $10.00.
- Age requirements: We require that all volunteers be a minimum of age 18 to work directly with the teens. Other opportunities are available for volunteers under the age of 18.
After all the appropriate procedures and documents have been obtained you may start volunteering!
